In May 2004 we were introduced to Gabby. She was a very scared baby girl. Her and her 3 sisters were abandoned at the Midlothian Animal Shelter after being severely abused. 1 of her sisters had breast cancer and it was like the owners tried to cut off her nipples, her other sister had her eyes gauged out and Gabby had the least abuse done to her…she was verbally and physically abused by being kicked around and stuff. Gabby was the only one that was able to be put up for adoption through Lone Star Bulldog Club. We went to South Arlington to meet her. Even though she was scared and not really allowing us to pet her, it was love at first sight. 1 week later we brought her home. It took a good 2 years for her to begin to trust us. Anytime we had fellowships from church or we had parties she always stayed away from everyone She never allowed us to really get close to her. When I would get the broom out ….even to this day she feared it. She finally began to trust us and became a very loving baby girl. We always made sure we never raised our voices at her. When we brought her home she met her big brother Goliath. They became inseperatable. Everywhere Goliath was Gabby was right there too. We lost Goliath almost 3 months ago exactly. Gabby grieved so much. She would sit by the wall and face the corner, she would sit on her bed and face the wall. She really stopped eating also. We started fostering Josh and they became friends but I truely believe she never stopped grieving for Goliath. Last night she came upstairs and slept in her beanbag. Today when I went to get girls from school she went back up to her beanbag. When Zoe, Kasi and myself came home I was in the kitchen and Zoe comes in and says mom you need to come look at Gabby, I said why she is fine, Zoe said MOM come now……I walked around the corner to the end of the stairs and there laid Gabby. Josh was going up to her licking her and laying beside her…..not leaving . We had to put him in his crate because we couldn’t get to her. Her back was arched and she was panting very heavily and she couldn’t move her legs. First I thought she had a seizure and fell down the stairs because of the way she was laying and because she looked like Goliath did when he had his. I immediately paniced because I knew I couldn’t lift her bc she is way over my weight limit. I called our vet they said to bring her in. Kasi went to all the neighbors no one was home, finally about 15 minutes later our neighbor Yvonne came home Kasi ran across the street I was walking around not even able to focus and here she comes. She goes in looks at Gabby and runs home to get a board and 2 long boards and Kasi got a jump rope and they made a stretcher. Jorge her husband came home and immediately came over and they lifted Gabby and put her in my van. I took her to the vet just like we had to with Goliath, only this time I was alone bc James was still at work and unable to focus and crying and my 11 year old is trying to calm me down as I drove Gabby to the vet. They come out immediately with a stretcher and the vet crawls in the back of my van and looks at her and starts feeling her tummy and said she looks like she has bloat…..I told them she hasn’t eaten they immedately put her on their stretcher and ran in with her. The tech walked Zoe and I to a room and said he is already doing blood word and checking her out. About 4 minutes later he comes in and says “Im sorry I do not have good news, Gabby is in heart failure. She is dying and is suffering. Sadely there is nothing we can do” I had to give them the permission to get get everything ready to put her to sleep. They came and got us and we walked to the back surgical room and I started to talk to Gabby to let her know we were there. I leaned down and looked her in the eyes told her how much we loved her. They gave her the sedative….her breathing was still very hard. I petted her and kissed her…..she kissed me back. Gabby never gave many kisses in the 8 years we had her. We think she was abused when she licked ….I am so thankful she gave me that last kiss. Dr. came in and I put my hand under her jaw and I sat and laid my head with her and talked to her as they gave her the final shot. She almost immediately took her last breat before the entire vile of medicine was given. My Gabby girl was gone. Dr. said I am lucky I got there when I did, because she was suffering and she very well could have passed alone. The reason she was laying like she is in the pictures with her back arched is because the Dr. said she couldn’t breathe and her chest was filled with fluid. Today I had to do something that I really didn’t think I would have to for a few more years. Our last Bulldog lived to be 13. Gabby was 10. Gabby’s life started out very rough but when we adopted her I know she knows we loved her. I tend to think she died of a broken heart because she grieved so much for her brother. Gabby was always healthy….never an issue with her. Her last check-up she was completely healthy. The Lord blessed us with her for 8 wonderful years. He allowed us to give her the home she deserved. I will miss her so much. I was closer to her than I was Goliath, maybe because she was abused and I tried so hard to show her the love she deserved. I love you Gabby, you will always be momma’s baby girl.

Hi! My name is Elwood and I am very relieved that I was rescued! They found me out wandering all alone and I was very scared at the shelter! They said I am about five years old! I have had a very long life and I was not treated like a good bully should be! When you first meet me I might be a little shy, but once I know you won’t hurt me I come right out of my shell! I am not a fan of other dogs, but I love to play with cats and kids! I love to go on walks, follow you around the house, and be a lazy boy! I am potty trained… And you don’t even have to crate me! (though I am crate trained) I know my manners (like sit and stay) and I even have been taught how to shake! All I want is a loving family to treat me like the king I am, and give me the attention and love that i have missed out on for so long! When you get me I will be up to date on my vaccination, neutered and on a heartworm preventative. My adoption fee is $450.

Duke is a 2 year old big lover boy! He enjoys chasing a ball and playing tag. He loves long walks and is great on the leash. He is great with other dogs at the park but does not want them at his house competing for his people. He does NOT like cats. He is great with kids. He is very sweet and gentle but at times does get a bit excited and can knock them over, but completely by accident. When the bully butt gets wiggling, there is no stopping it. He is crate trained and potty trained. He sleeps in the crate at night beautifully and if he is not put in the crate- he will jump on the bed. He is great in the house by himself, but make sure that if he cannot have it- it is not on the floor. If it is on the floor- he sees it as fair game. He also jumps on the couch when he thinks he can get away with it. He is a runner and if the door is left open you will have to chase him at least a block. I think he thinks it’s a fun game to be chased. He will not turn around or listen so you have to be careful he doesn’t get out the door/gate. But if you let him off the leash at the park he is a perfect gentlemen. He is also a bit of a wanderer and will follow his nose if you’re not paying attention. He loves to be the king of his castle and will give a person all the love they can handle if he is getting the same. Duke will be up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and on a heartworm preventative. His adoption fee is $550.

My wife and I adopted Piper from Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue on November 23, 2008. All the way home from Dallas to Midland I continued to ask the question of whether we had done the right thing adopting this 5 ½ year old female bulldog who had been so abused by her prior owner. When Piper put her paw on my hand which was on the armrest I knew that the answer to my question was most definitely “yes”. Piper had it very hard before we adopted her. She could barely walk and would have to lie down at least every 15 feet when she did. So, our twice daily ritual, me picking her up and carrying her to the back yard so she could take care of business. I eventually began calling this ritual the “bullydog parade” as I would often sing to her while I held her. Piper would take her time and come back in through the doggy door when she was good and ready. Finally, when she was ready for bed she’d come over to my lounge chair and stare at me. I knew it was time for me to get up, pick her up and place her ever so gently in the chair for her nightly sleep. You see, Piper never liked beds just my lounge chair.

I write all of the above so you would know just how sweet and precious my little Piper truly was. She passed away late last night or early this morning after I placed her in my lounge chair one last time. My heart is broken and aching – my best friend and my little bullydog princess has gone and crossed over Rainbow Bridge leaving me, my wife, and my other rescue bulldog Dimitri to mourn her passing. I often remember speaking with my mom—she never really liked dogs. My mom would tell me just how lucky Piper was to have someone who loved her and took such good care of her. With all due respect to my mom, she was wrong, for you see I was the lucky one. I could never give Piper as much love as she gave me and my family. She was always the first one to greet me when I came home from work. As soon as Piper saw it was me she would roll over on her back and wiggle inviting me to rub her little tummy, a proposition I never refused. I was her person and we both knew it. Nonetheless, she often reminded me—she would frequently come over to where I was seated and put her chin and at least one paw on my foot to let me know that I was hers.

I want to thank Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue for letting us adopt Piper. She truly was a little angel and was a blessing to us each and every day of the almost 4 years she was part of our family. She was always loved by us and we will never, ever forget her, her kind and beautiful little face, and her wonderful smile. She was most certainly one of God’s greatest creations and I will always love her.

Rocky is a very sweet 4 year old gentlemen who really just wants to take naps in comfy spots (aka the couch). He is great with other dogs, although I don’t know if he can really even see them. He loves children and will lay at their feet for hours. He really just wants a pet every now and then.

Rocky loves to be with people and he has a very keen sense of hearing, so if he can hear you, he will find you and follow you around. He doesn’t seem to mind his meds. He is housetrained and will bark at the back door until you let him out.
At first he didn’t like to be alone but now he goes to his bed and enjoys having some quiet time alone.

Rocky is a very sweet natured boy who only wants to please. He has some vision problems and will have entropian to help him see better. Rocky will also need drops in his eyes since he has dry eye for the rest of his life. Rocky has some arthritis and will need Rimadyl to keep him comfortable.

Rocky would make a great companion for anyone, but would probably be most happy with someone he can sit with and who is home a lot of the time, perhaps an older retired person or couple. Rocky will be up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and on a heartworm preventative. His adoption fee is $500.

Hi! My name is Izzy, but my foster dad calls me Isadora Duncan because I like to dance with him. My previous people didn’t treat me very well. My foster dad says he knows that because I sometimes flatten out like a pancake when he comes toward me, or sometimes I roll over on my back and pee. I love seeing my foster dad, and when he comes and sits on the floor with him, I run up to him, put my arms on his shoulders, and shower him with kisses. Some of my favorite things are going for a walk and taking a ride in the car. I don’t really care for my dad’s dog, Ethel, but I really like other dogs. I think it’s cuz both she and I want to be the boss in his house. I would be a great dog for anyone, but you have to be patient and understanding with me. My foster dad says my white fur and ice blue eyes make me a gorgeous girl, even though I’m a little bit too full figured. Anyhow, they think I am about 4 years old so check me out and let me know what you think. I deserve a great home, and you deserve a great dog. I will be up to date on my vaccinations, spayed and on a heartworm preventative. My adoption fee is $475.

My name is Hugo, and boy have I had it rough in my first year of life! I was found locked in a storage shed with my sister Margo, and I was told we had not been well taken care of for a long time! I had no food or water, and I was starving! My paw pads were swollen, I had mange from head to toe, an eye infection, and ear infection and pyoderma! Well all that is behind me now because I’m living in the lap of luxery!

I am a young little lad…they think I am between 1-2 years old! I have some red hair growing in, and foster mama says that I am going to be one handsome fella! I love other dogs, cats and kids….well I pretty much love everyone! I am very playful, happy, and energetic. If you met me…you would never know that I had been mistreated for a second! I love to give big sloppy bulldog kisses…and I am not much of a drooler. I love to go on walks, play chase….but I’m not too sure how to play with these toys yet! I love to follow my foster momma around EVERYWHERE she goes…and I like to help! Foster momma says that one day I am going to be the most handsome bulldog around…inside and out! I’ll be neutered once the doc says my infections are better and will be up to date on all my vaccinations and on a heartworm preventative, my adoption fee is $600.

Guess who?…it’s me, Margo! I like to help my foster mom with everything, so when she said she needed to write something about me I said just hand the laptop to me. I am loving my new life so much! I don’t like to dwell on the past, but I didn’t get a very nice start in life. I didn’t have people who gave me the love and attention every dog deserves and then my buddy Hugo and I were abandoned in a locked shed with no food or water…or hope. It was awful! Thankfully, we were rescued and I landed in a foster home where I have a whole family to love me. The best part of my current home is I have a foster mom who stays with me all the time so I don’t have to worry about being alone or sad. I don’t like to be alone! I won’t even go outside unless I can take her with me. I keep her very busy because I have no clue what a dog can and can’t do in a house. My foster mom says I am a very fast learner and I do try my best to follow the rules. Sometimes it’s hard because this new life is so exciting and I am a very curious girl. My foster mom says I get an A+ in housebreaking, but I need improvement with jumping on people/things and with chewing on stuff I’m not supposed to. Oops! Hey, it’s not my fault that a remote control and a bone have a similar texture. Oh yeah, I also get an A+ in crate training because I go in my crate whenever I am asked and I sleep in it all night and don’t make a peep. I really am a good girl!

There are kids and other dogs in my foster home, too. Five other dogs, to be exact. I’m pretty sure my foster mom is a crazy dog lady, but I keep that to myself. I try my very best to be calm when I am playing with the kids that live here but I’m only 1 to 2 years old so I still have a lot of puppy in me. They love to throw toys for me so I can fetch them and they are pretty forgiving when I accidentally knock them over in the process. The dogs that live here confuse me because I want to play nonstop and sometimes they join me and other times they give me the cold shoulder. When they ignore me, I try to show them how cute and charming I am and they STILL won’t join in my fun. So I really hope that my forever home will have a dog that is young and energetic like me. Most of all, I just want a family to love me and give me all the attention I missed out on for so long. I have some skin issues that I am on medicine for and then I have all my vaccinations and be spayed. Once all that is squared away, I will be ready to move in with my forever family. I can’t wait! If you are interested in adding me to your family my adoption fee is only $550.
