Available Bulldogs:

Hundreds of Bulldogs are lost, abandoned, taken to animal shelters, or surrendered to rescue every year. This is the price of popularity. (The Bulldog is among the 24 most popular breeds). Buyers are intrigued by the Bulldog's many charms, only later to discover the special care that may come with their wrinkles, "pushed in" faces, unusual structure, and, in some cases, genetic faults from irresponsible breeding.

The Bulldogs that come through the rescue program are seldom in "perfect" condition in terms of health, temperament or both. Frequently, it is health and/or behavior problems that cause the owners to be willing to give up the dog. The average age of rescue Bulldogs is about four or five, and few Bulldogs are ever surrendered to rescue under the age of three.

Tallulah

Tallulah

Don’t you think that is pretty name?  It goes well with my own beauty!  I am a 4 year old goddess that is looking for a new home.  My current home has several kidos and another on the way.  I used to like kids but now they just get on my nerves.  All that loud noise and playing, I can’t get my beauty rest.  So I am looking for a home with no kids, no cats and no other dogs, I want to be the Queen!  I will need someone with bulldog experience because I am a little on the hard headed side they say, I don’t agree.  I have pretty much run my current household and they say I need someone who will let me know that "I" am not in charge.  I think I’m doing fine but the "people" don’t like my bossiness.

If you think that you have the time and patience to work with me and let me know I am loved but I am not in charge, I may be the girl for you.  The nice folks at Lone Star Bulldog Rescue will be sure that I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm preventative before I go to my new home.  My adoption fee is $450.

Duke

Duke

Hi, my name is Duke and I am a fun loving guy! I am 3 years old and full of energy. I love to play fetch and if the water hose is out, watch out because I will be in it! I can even slide down the slide if you have one in the backyard. I would really like to go to a home with lots of kids to play with me, I loooove kids!! Other boy dogs are another story. I like to be the top dog and if I had a girlfriend that will let me be the boss that will be just fine. But the boy dogs need to stay away from my new home. I am a sweet guy and have not had any accidents in my foster home. I sleep on my bed at night in my foster mom’s room and just love to be loved.

Duke is neutered, on heartworm preventative, microchipped and up to date on his shots. His adoption fee is $450.

Howie

Howie

This is information from Howie’s foster mom:

….I've had him just over a week.  He's sweet, playful, incredibly smart, a fast learner, wants to please, and a big love bug.  And of course, he can be rowdy and rambunctious at times.  I would be surprised if he’s two years old he still has so much playful puppy in him.

The first night here Howie learned to walk on a leash without pulling, how to sit (I think he already knew this), and not to jump up on me.  The next day on our walk we practiced heeling and he did great.  He didn’t pull on the leash and he ignored (for the most part) the neighborhood dogs while we were walking.  (This is great considering he had pulled so hard that he broke his harness the day before I picked him up.)

We’re working on the basics- heel, sit, down, good, no and off and he’s taking to it great and in a very short time.  (Stay is going to need some extra work!)

Howie had major anxiety about being in his crate.  He had to be picked up and pushed in and once in, he sat and drooled from nerves and barked…a lot.  He will now walk in being guided by one hand on his collar and he’s stopped the drooling and barking.  He spends short periods in and out of the crate all day so he’s learning it’s a place to take a nap, not a prison.  He goes in at bedtime and sleeps through the night without protesting.

He’s doing very well with potty training.  We always go outside when he comes out of his crate.  I still watch him like a hawk when he’s loose in the house or sometimes when I’m preoccupied I’ll keep him leashed to me so he doesn’t start any bad habits.  He’s gone to the back door on his own a few times so he’s getting the idea.  He still needs to learn to let me know though.

The first couple days I kept Howie on a leash when we went out back for him to go potty.  Then first time I let him off the leash he went all the way to the back of the yard to go.  After he did his business I told him what a good boy he was.  Well, he got all happy and I have to say it was more than a little scary to see him barreling across the yard at me like a freight train...I just knew I was about to get flattened!  But as he got to me I put my hands up and said no and low and behold, he didn't jump on me, he just sat and let me love on him.  Whoever ends up adopting this little boy will be getting a real treasure.

He's very playful and can get a little rough because he’s so strong.  We're working on keeping hands out of the mouth when we play and replacing them with toys.  He loves toys, especially squeaky toys that have bumps that tickle his mouth.  And I think he’ll be a natural at playing fetch.  He doesn't really know the commands to get it and bring it but when I throw a squeaky ball he does it all on his own (well at least the get it part!) so it should be easy to teach him....the "drop it" part will need work.

His worst behavior is when he’s feeling playful.  He goes after hands like they’re toys.  He doesn’t bite down but it’s a habit that has to be broken as he’s so rambunctious when he’s playing, he could easily hurt someone without meaning to.

All in all, I am so impressed with how much he has learned so far.  Of course he'll need consistent practice everyday for it to stick but he is a jewel.

Howie’s adoption fee is $400.  He is current on shots, neutered and on heartworm preventative.

London

London

London's bridge came falling down over 2 years ago when she was just dropped off at the North Texas Humane Society at the age of 6. They quickly called Lone Star Bulldog Rescue and we picked her right up. She was adopted by a very nice man, who until just recently, loved her and gave her a great home. He, unfortunately has a new job that requires him to work too much to be able to spend enough time with London, so he returned her back to us. Now, at the age of 8 she is still waiting for her forever home. London is a sassy girl who has learned to play with her foster brothers quite nicely. Now she is still the queen and requests that she go to a home as the only girl in the house. She is potty trained and likes to sleep cuddled up against her foster mom. She has had an eye infection, but is almost through with her antibiotics, but will need eye drops everyday for dry eyes. Other than that, she is a good girl that has had a life full of changes.  She would really like to settle down into a forever home in her retirement years.  So go on, put your application in and take London home.  She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm preventative. Her adoption fee is $400.

Bugsy

Bugsy

Hello bulldog lovers I’m Bugsy!!  As you can see, (wish I could) I am a dog in need!  My eyes have been this way so long that I can’t see much at all.  My previous owner dropped me off that the shelter, what a break for me.  He didn’t want to spend any money getting my eyes better, guess he just didn’t love me enough.  ??

Anyway my luck has changed now.  The shelter folks called Lone Star Bulldog Club’s rescue volunteers and they came right away and picked me up. The vet made me all better and I am doing great!  The only thing I really don’t like is them cleaning and putting medicine in my eyes. I am getting better at it every day, but I still get scared when people touch my eyes.  I just want to know you’re not going to hurt me!  ??

I love to eat and am putting on good weight, even though I am already a big boy!  I’m bigger than most bullies. I keep hearing them say, "He’s a man’s dog". But I know there are plenty of women out there for me to love!  When I am finished putting on all the weight I will probably weigh 80 pounds.  Now I know that sounds like a fat dog but I have a big frame, I can carry that much weight with grace!!

I love to play with my toys, go on walks and wrestle with my buddy Hank.  Hank is also up for adoption!  We are great friends.  As long as I have a friend to play with, I am always happy!??

If you have bulldog experience or at least “big” dog experience and you are looking to add another beautiful mug to your household, then I’m the one!  Please put your application in and tell them you are interested in the “big ole 2 year old chunk of slobbery kisses!”  I have all my shots, am on heartworm preventative and am neutered.  My adoption fee is $500, if you go by the pound you are only paying about $6.50 or so a pound. What a deal!!

Barrett

Barrett

Hi I’m Barrett, I’m Bare-ly here!  I was found by a local animal control officer wandering the streets.  As you can see I have not been taken care of, heck they didn’t even love me enough to feed me.  I stayed at the shelter for the allotted time and then Lone Star Bulldog Rescue snapped me up like I was a real prize!  The other dogs in the shelter said I would never make it out of here alive, but I showed them!!

See how thin I am and I was totally infested with fleas, yuck!!  Those little suckers made my hard life even more miserable.  The nice folks at Park Plaza Animal Clinic along with a Lone Star Bulldog Rescue volunteer gave me a much appreciated bath.  They said they had never seen so many fleas and so much dirt.  The water was brown when they bathed me.  The doctor looked me over and said I have a very bad case of heartworms.  She says I have to gain some weight and start feeling better before she will treat me for the heartworms.  I should make a full recovery, whew!  I was kind of worried when I heard all that.  It sure has been nice to have some good food and a warm place to sleep.  I am eating all I can so I can get my treatment and get out of here.

I know there is a new home out there waiting for me, at least that is what they keep telling me.  I hope it is not like my old home.  I had a friend at my old home but unfortunately she did not make it out.  I have never been an inside dog, always stayed outside and roughed it.  So I will need someone that is willing to teach me all the things that a "good" bulldog should know.  Like walking on a leash, potty training you know, just having good manners.

I’m not sure when I will be ready to go but if you think I look like a keeper please go ahead and put in your application.  By the time I am through here I will have all my shots, neutered, heartworm free and on a heartworm preventative and have my very own microchip!  My adoption fee has not been set as of yet but you can keep checking back on that.  And one more thing, they think I am 5 "ish" if that matters to you.

Caesar

Caesar

Ceasar came to Lone Star Bulldog Rescue after being hit by a car in November 2007. His owners had taken him to a vet in Arkansas after the accident, but once they learned how much it would cost to repair his leg, they told the vet to simply put the puppy down. Thankfully, the vet refused to euthanize him and the owners surrendered Ceasar.

Ceasar had extensive surgery and is now "as good as new." He loves to run and play, just like the other Bullies in his foster family. Ceasar has longer, skinnier legs than his stocky Bully siblings, so he always wins the races in the backyard. While his markings might resemble a Bulldog's, his body structure is more on par to a Boxer. He also "smiles" by wiggling his short, docked, Boxer-like tail.

Ceasar is a young guy ~ less than two years old ~ and seems to be quite smart. Since moving in with his foster family, he has learned to sit and the word "no." He has not had any accidents in the home and he has no problem going into his crate, although having cookies in your hand hurries the process. After play time, Ceasar enjoys naps on the couch or curled up in a doggy snuggle bed that is probably two sizes too small for him.

He is currently living with three other dogs and he has fit into the pack very nicely. He has a submissive nature and has no issues regarding toys or food. In fact, when you're ready to give him his food bowl, he now will sit patiently before it is placed on the floor. His foster family is still working on his leash skills.

Ceasar would do great in a home with other dogs and/or kids who can match his playfulness. He has a lot of energy and enjoys running ~ whether it is in the foster family's backyard or up and down the foster family's staircase. Ceasar is neutered, as well as current on his vaccinations and heartworm preventive. His adoption fee is $400.

Curly Sue

Curly Sue

Meet Curly Sue. I can't remember my past life, just that I was roaming the streets with no home.  A Good Samaritan took me and my brother in and tried to take care of us. She spent a lot of money at the vet getting us checked out but unfortunately she did not have the extra funds to get us completely well.

That's were Lone Star Bulldog Rescue came in. They took us both in and found my brother a home right away. But since I had medical issues they did a complete work up and are treating all my ailments. I have demodex mange, but I have taken medicine for it and it is almost healed up, it will just take a little time. Luckily I am young and otherwise healthy; I am about 2 years old.

I am your typical “untrained” bulldog.  The nice lady at the vet said I need to learn some manners. I like to jump up and greet everyone; they keep telling me that I’m not very mannerly. It's hard to remember but I am trying to learn that jumping is “not” good. I know I can learn how to be more polite, it will just take someone that doesn't mind reminding me continually. So all that being said I need a bulldog savvy family. One that is willing to work with me on my training. I think at this time it would be best if there were no small kids, cats or other dogs, they say I don't know my own strength. Once I am schooled on the finer social skills you can reconsider the other pets and kids. My foster mom says as long as you will take me for walks and play with me, I will give you all of my love. I have been learning new manners every day in my foster home. I am turning out to be quite the love bug.

My adoption fee is $500 and that includes all my shots, spay and on heartworm preventative.

Peggy Sue

Peggy Sue

Peggy Sue is still looking to get married to that perfect family!  She was returned to Lone Star Bulldog Rescue earlier this year because her family had life changes and could not give enough time to her. Peggy Sue originally came to rescue 2 years ago because they were not able to continue her care.  Her surrendering owner told us she had been hit by a car, thus the loss of her leg.  She is a sweet and loving girl 2 to 3 years old, who just can't catch a break. She wants so badly to run and play with her foster siblings, but she doesn't have the strength to make it very far. We are currently raising money so she can have a cart to get around easier.  Her foster mom cannot say enough good things about her.  She gets along great with other dogs, house trained and seems to be good with kids. Peggy Sue is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm preventative and currently taking joint supplements.  Her adoption fee is $400.  We are determined to do whatever we can for her and find her a forever home, a real forever home! Please help Peggy Sue, she deserves to run and play!
