Available Bulldogs:

Hundreds of Bulldogs are lost, abandoned, taken to animal shelters, or surrendered to rescue every year. This is the price of popularity. (The Bulldog is among the 24 most popular breeds). Buyers are intrigued by the Bulldog's many charms, only later to discover the special care that may come with their wrinkles, "pushed in" faces, unusual structure, and, in some cases, genetic faults from irresponsible breeding.

The Bulldogs that come through the rescue program are seldom in "perfect" condition in terms of health, temperament or both. Frequently, it is health and/or behavior problems that cause the owners to be willing to give up the dog. The average age of rescue Bulldogs is about four or five, and few Bulldogs are ever surrendered to rescue under the age of three.

Stoneleigh
Lone Star Bulldog Rescue - Stoneleigh

Stoneleigh

This precious soul came to us when her owners were no longer able to care for her.

There are not enough words to describe how sweet this girl is....she is an angel.

Stoneleigh is eight years old. I know that scares most people away but it shouldn't.  Doesn't she deserve a home full of love and attention just as much as one half her age.

She is sweet, quite, gentle and great with children and other dogs.  Stoneleigh is very petite for a Bully...she is a great size.

Stoneleigh has already made herself very comfortable in her foster families home.  She does sleep in her crate at night.  Although ,after her morning feeding she does enjoy a nice nap on their bed....she so deserves a nice cozy place to relax!

She is housebroken, spayed, current on shots. Stoneleigh does have dry eye which requires daily medication.  Stoneleigh is waiting patiently for her Fur-ever home...don't make her wait much longer..she is a gem!!  Her adoption fee is $350.

Gracie

Little Miss Gracie is a small petite 4 year old bulldog.  She came to rescue after her new owner realized he could not care for her.  Gracie has a skin infection that we are currently treating and feel it will respond quickly. As soon as her infection is cleared we will complete vetting.  Gracie's foster mom reports that she seems to be housetrained, loves to be with you at all times but needs a home with bulldog experience because she would like to be in control if you would let her.  She is living with another bulldog in the house and has been OK with him but is showing signs of being toy possessive, therefore she will not be adopted to anyone with small children.

Gracie will be spayed, up to date on vaccinations and on a heartworm preventative. Her adoption fee is $500.

Boo

Update on Boo – 6-26-10

Boo is looking so much better, he has gained a little weight and is going to the vet for his 3rd 'dip' treatment for the mange.  Boo will be evaluated to see if he is ready for his next heartworm treatment, if he is he will have to stay at the vet’s office for a week for them to monitor him. While Boo looks so much better his skin is still very red and raw looking.  He rubs his face all over everything; we know his skin is still itchy. He has no hair on the back of his legs, tail, and rear and we don't know if that will ever grow back as it looks like it is from sitting a lot.  We wonder if he was kept in a kennel outside that was too small for him to really lay down and with a concrete bottom.  Boo is energetic, minds pretty good, LOVES to be petted, has more energy than he should for still being sick, he is quite the athletic guy as he loves to jump into a lawn chair or if he smells food in the back of my SUV he jumps right in the back as if it were no problem for him.  We love his adorable face with that huge tongue hanging out the side of his mouth.  He has a sweet personality.  Boo still has a long way to go but he has really made great progress.

A big thank you to everyone that has donated for Boo’s care.  At last count his bill was over $1200 and he still has a lot more treatments to go, so any donation large or small will really help!

The inhumanity of man never ceases to amaze me…..We thought Quinn was another lost soul but then came Boo.  The most unbelievable thing about Boo is that he was an owner surrender…yes someone actually brought this dog into a shelter and turned him in. He was not found wandering the streets, he was living with someone and they let him get in this kind of condition.  What do you think they thought every day as they watched him slowly starve to death and be ravaged by the mange?  Was there ever a thought about the welfare of this dog?  How could you look at him every day and not want to be moved to do something to help him?  With nails 1 to 1 ½ inches long it also leads me to believe that he was not allowed to walk around.  Possibly he sat in a cage or a very small area for most of his life.  Everyday walking would have kept him nails to a more normal length but he was not able to wear his nails down.  Have you ever seen a picture of a dog that looked more defeated?  What a miserable life he must have led…..but those days are now over!  He is currently at one of our vets being treated for the mange, yeast on the skin, parasites and general infections.  He has also been given a bath and we are working on his nails.  Boo will never have to worry about a cruel owner, no food or water ever again.  Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue is committed to bringing Boo back to health and letting him live the kind of life that all Bulldogs should…..”Like A King”!  We will post updates on Quinn and Boo as we have them.  Some of you have already made donations to Quinn for her care and we greatly appreciate you and now we hesitate to ask again but Boo needs your help as well.  Anything large or small will be most appreciated.

Quinn

Quinn

UPDATE 7/5/2010:

Quinn is doing well and is over her respiratory infection and stomach illness. She is recovering nicely from the demodex but still has a couple of months to go with treatments every 2 weeks. Quinn still has to take antibiotics for occasional skin staph infections due to the severity of her demodex that was allowed to get out of control. She is eating well and has put on 4lbs. She will have her spay done soon but will not be available for adoption till the demodex is completely clear. Quinn loves other dogs, kids and people in general. She is much younger than I initially thought as she acted elderly because she felt so bad. Well, she does not feel bad anymore! You could call her Super Girl if you wanted as she can leap onto and over furniture, kids, other dogs, etc. in no time flat. She is like a gazelle. She has boundless energy and just wants to play, play, play and then play some more. She never seems to tire. Quinn will need a patient family who is willing to train a young and energetic dog. We are still working on potty training and she will need a home that is willing to potty train as well. She is the perfect dog for any family. Quinn has a sweet and playful personality.

Quinn started her treatment with a rough few days.  Her medicines made her deathly ill and caused us to have to take her to the emergency vet.  After several hours there she was transferred back to our regular vet as soon as they opened where he determined that not only had she had a bad reaction to medications but she also had a severe upper respiratory infection.  Our vet was able to get her condition under control but she spent several days there as well.  She is back with her foster mommy now and doing very well.  Her road is long but she is making progress.  Thank you to all the people that have prayed for her and made donations!

Another lost soul…….Quinn came to rescue in the most horrific condition.  She has demodex so bad that she has open wounds on her body and a raging skin infection to the point she has had to be hospitalized on IV medications.  If that is not enough she now has kennel cough.  Quinn was turned over to rescue from a local shelter that did their best for her.  It will be a long road to bring Quinn back to health and we need your donations to help!  She is underweight as well as her other issues so until we can get her skin infections under control and some weight on her we will not be able to spay her.  Quinn has a loving and sweet disposition even in the condition she is currently in.  She tries to wag her little bully butt and give kisses and seems to hold no resentment towards humans for her suffering.  Our vet thinks she may have been in this condition for close to a year.  Can you help Quinn?  She really needs you.  Her vet bills so far have been right at $1000 and there are more to come if we are to restore her health.  Please make a donation for Quinn through our Donate button and help end her suffering.
